Calum opening act at new community hub
Facility set to be revealed
A live music event will help shine the spotlight on a new east Perthshire community facility this weekend.
Singer-songwriter Calum Campbell is to perform two sets outside Kettins Community Hub on Saturday, July 10, as part of a ‘Gig on a Truck’ tour being organised by Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre.
Performances are due to take place at 2pm and 5pm and are the first official events to be held at the Lindsay Park facility, which is the result of a concerted fundraising and planning effort carried out over the last seven years.
A combination of grants and local donations raised the near-£165,000 required to create a building which now boasts a community room, a small kitchen, toilets and new changing rooms.
Externally, paths have upgraded to improve access and disabled parking facilities have been created.
Susan Smith, a trustee with Kettins Community Hub, said: “It is so exciting to have the opportunity to hold this new style of performance at our newlycompleted hub and to be confident that we can deliver a safe event.
“The Gig on a Truck event has allowed us to invite the whole community to what will be our first big event and showcase this great new facility for the local area.”
Lu Kemp, artistic director for Perth Theatre, said: “We were thrilled at the response to our call out from local musicians – we had 28 applications from all kinds of artists – it’s testament to the talent on our doorstep here in Perthshire.
“It has been a long, tough, period for many people – and specifically for freelancers in the arts – and we are delighted to be able to offer local musicians a paying gig, while bringing some much-needed live entertainment to the people of Perth and Kinross.
“We are so grateful to our funders at The Gannochy Trust and Creative Scotland for helping make this possible.”
Tickets to see Calum’s performances are free but need to be booked in advance.
