Date set for community council by-election
The dates for a by-election in Blairgowrie and Rattray for the town’s community council have been announced.
The move comes after the statutory organisation fell below the prescribed minimum number of members following the resignation of its chair in April.
Nominations for 10 new members of the community council are now being sought.
Meetings have continued to be held as there are still enough members to ensure that the community council remains quorate.
The five current members of Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council (BRCC) are Sandy Thomson, Carla Sutherland, Euan Donald, Robin Duncan and Kim Wood.
Current elected members of the community council do not require to stand at a by-election but any co-opted members do.
In a statement, Perth and Kinross Council’s Fiona Robertson, returning officer for community councils, confirmed: “A by-election is to be held for Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council.
“The by-election will take place on Thursday, August 12, to elect 10 members.
“Where the number of valid nominations exceeds the maximum number of members for the community council area an election will require to be held.
“Persons wishing to represent their community council must be 16 years of age, reside in the community council area and be named on the electoral register for the community council area in which they are standing.
“A candidate’s proposer and seconder must also be named on the electoral register and reside in the same community council area.”
To stand as a candidate a completed nomination form, together with a supporting 50 word statement, must be submitted to the returning officer at the address below or by email to communitycouncils@pkc.gov.uk by 4pm on Thursday, July 22.
Nomination forms and copies of the Scheme of Establishment of Community Councils can be downloaded from the PKC’s website at www.pkc.gov.uk/communitycouncils.
They can also be requested from the returning officer at 2 High Street, Perth, PH1 5PH.
