BLAIR HAVE TO DIG DEEP
Brown winner egdes out a dogged Brigde of Earn outfit
Blairgowrie Juniors got the better of a good Bridge of Earn side 3-2 at Davie Park on Saturday.
Prior to kick-off, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of former club captain Sandy Darling, who passed away the previous week aged 73.
The home side were made to work hard for their victory but started well, with Ross Bell opening the scoring after eight minutes when he finished a good move from close range.
The pre-season fixture became a bit scrappy after this, with visitors Bridge of Earn forcing their way into the game.
Cammy Johnstone made a couple of good saves before he was beaten from the penalty spot by Moffat midway through the half.
The second half saw
Blair start well, with a Paul Scott cross flashing across the face of the visitors’ goal.
However, it was Bridge of Earn who took the lead after 51 minutes when a slack clearance
rebounded kindly to set up a cool finish by Moffat.
To their credit, Blairgowrie got a grip on the game and gradually took control.
The equaliser came in the 66th minute after a fine solo effort from
Matty Adam.
It was all Blair now, but the visitors were defending manfully, aided by some outstanding goalkeeping.
The winner arrived with seven minutes left when Stefan Brown steered a low cross from Adam into the net.
Further chances followed, but amateur side Bridge of Earn kept Blairgowrie at bay.
This was a considerable test for Mark Brash’s men in a tough, physical match against a more than useful outfit.
Blairgowrie are at home to Luncarty on Thursday this week in an 8pm kick-off.
Entry will be by cash donation, with refreshments available.
In the Quest Engineering Cup for North and Tayside clubs, Blairgowrie will be at home to Dundee Violet.
This tie is provisionally set for Saturday, November 20.
Elsewhere, Blairgowrie received a bye in the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup.
They will face either Troon or Benburb at home in the second round.
The tie is set to be played on September 25.
