Double joy
Victory for Blair made two wins in a week
Blairgowrie took all three points against Arbroath Vics thanks to a lastminute own goal.
This was a hard-fought 2-1 victory away in Angus, with Blair having to dig deep to wear down their opponents late in the game.
Vics almost fashioned a chance in the opening seconds, but Corey Gray made a last-ditch clearance.
That was a wake-up call, but Blairgowrie failed to heed it as Arbroath dominated the opening quarter.
Blair slowly came into the match and were the better side as the interval approached.
A Gary Axworthy piledriver shaved the crossbar, then a drive by Paul Scott, following a flowing move, was brilliantly saved by Lyall.
If Blairgowrie thought they might resume in the ascendancy after half-time, they were very much mistaken.
Another slow start, followed by indecision in the penalty area, allowed a chance for Dye who scored with an emphatic finish high into the Blair net.
Ever so slowly, Blairgowrie gained a foothold in the match.
Clear chances were scarce, but when Blair Geddes headed down a corner for Darren Neave to flick the ball into the Arbroath net via the underside of the bar it was 1-1 after 75 minutes.
Blair pressed for the winner, while Arbroath, in contrast to the opening spell, resorted to long clearances by their keeper and much time-wasting.
Axworthy’s long-range effort was well-saved, then the Blair winger was denied by a brave block following a good move.
With time running out, a Stefan Law free-kick was met by a towering Blair Geddes header.
His effort was parried by Lyall, but the ball rebounded over the goal line via defender Stirton.
The Blairgowrie travelling support celebrated enthusiastically, thankful for a break in their favour at last.
