Sports halls to focus on young

-

Live Active Leisure has announced a series of offers in relation to the sports halls it manages, many of which are particularly geared towards young people.

The Scottish Government’s decision to move to Level Zero of its coronovirus restrictions means that access to indoor facilities is now permitted in certain circumstances.

‘Summer of Play’is a £20 million initiative from the Scottish Government which aims to deliver a range of activities for children, young people and their families over the summer. In particular, it is designed to provide support for those children and young people who may otherwise struggle to access such experiences during the holidays.

Available activities include five-a-side football and squash, including at venues such as Blairgowrie Recreation Centre.

As the delivery partner for the Perth and Kinross area, charitable trust Live Active Leisure’s offer will see families and individuals play for free, and adults joining in for a reduced price.

Phil Coleman, community sport and partnership manager for Live Active, said:“We’re really excited about the opportunities available through the Summer of Play initiative.

“The physical and mental impact of Covid is significant and for many, a weekly game of fives with their friends or a game of badminton with the kids meant so much more than straightforward active minutes – although that’s important too.

“These amazing offers recognise that people have been hit financially, and our continued commitment to safety processes should help assure everyone that our primary aim is to keep them safe and healthy. We’re really looking forward to seeing our customers back on the courts of our venues.”

Children from pre-school up to age 18, and accompanying adults, can book a court for badminton, short tennis and table tennis free of charge in participating venues.

Adults can book badminton, short tennis, table tennis and squash as groups of up to four for only £5, and five-a-side courts for £20.

Live Active is continuing in its efforts to ensure its venues are Covid-safe, which measures including increased cleaning, one-way systems, informational signage, online booking and reduced capacity still in place.
