Meigle welcomed the reigning EPL champions Forfarshire to Victory Park on Saturday.

Visiting captain Scott Cameron won the toss and opted to bat first.

Wallace and Johnston made a solid start, taking the total to 36 in the ninth over before Johnston top-edged a rising Majid Rasheed delivery and was caught behind for 12.

Scotland batsman Michael Leask was the next man to fall in similar fashion, this time off the bowling of Majid’s brother Zahid.

Callum Garden then joined Wallace and he continued his fine form this season in helping the visitors get to 100 before he, too, edged a delivery from Zahid to wicketkeeper Peter Drummond for 31.

Captain Cameron and Wallace then put together a match-defining partnership of 108 on an ever-deteriorating surface, pushing the total over 200 when Cameron was dismissed to a well-judged boundary catch by Murray Scott off the bowling of Iain Stewart for 52.

Wallace and new partner Bailwal pressed the accelerator in the closing stages of the innings to push the final total up to 269-5.

Wallace ended on 132 not out.

The Meigle reply got off to a poor start, with Shahzeb Saeed falling to Bailwal in the opening over.

Thereafter the home batsmen struggled to cope with the pace and bounce of Bailwal and Cameron, along with some big turn from Hogarth and Black, as they slipped to a miserable 30-5.

Peter Drummond and Zahid Rasheed managed to weather a bit of the storm in the middle overs to stem the fall of wickets without making much impression on the scoring side of things as they put on 45 runs for the sixth wicket before Zahid was caught for 30.

Charles Clark then joined Drummond and they managed to make a bit more of an impact on some of the change bowlers, putting on another 45 to take the score to 120 before Clark was caught at backward point for 11.

Peter Drummond followed soon after going for one reverse sweep too many for a top score of 67.

The innings was wrapped-up when Scott was caught behind off Hogarth to give him a deserved second wicket, with Meigle ending up 126 runs adrift on 143 all out.

Meigle visit the capital this coming Saturday to take on Watsonians.
