Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Blairgowrie have thanked local people for their generosity after more than £900 was raised on Saturday as part of the build-up to the Drive-It Day event which returns to Blairgowrie for a fourth year this weekend.

Local car enthusiast and the man behind the Drive-It Days in Blairgowrie, Colin Stewart, was in Tesco car park on Saturday, August 14, with a vintage Jaguar to raise awareness of the event.

This year, the Drive-It Day will be raising money for Alzheimer Scotland, Bowel Cancer UK and the Rotary’s own charitable activities.

Shoppers enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about the Drive-It Day event itself, as well as some of the cars that will be taking part this year.

In a similar format to previous years, more than 80 cars will gather at Blairgowrie Golf Club on Sunday, August 22, before parading through the centre of the east Perthshire capital at around 10am and then driving through Perthshire and Fife.

Colin explained: “This is our fourth year of Drive-It Days and we have raised £80,000 for our chosen charities so far.

“People have been more generous than ever before this year and we really appreciate the support the people of Blairgowrie and Rattray have given us over the years.

“The Rotary Club of Blairgowrie’s Drive-It Day is now the premier event of its kind in the whole of the UK.

“We have cars coming from all over the UK to take part.”

The event, usually held in April, was one of thousands of events cancelled last year due to the global coronavirus pandemic and was also postponed from its spring date this year.

All participants who had signedup to take part in the event last year have signed-up for the new date .
