PRIDE OF PLACE

Pride of Place held its AGM in the town’s Cycling Hub premises on August 10.

Secretary Tracy Thom opened proceedings by announcing Anne Easson was standing down as chair. Anne nominated Jeff Brewer for the post.

Minutes from the last AGM, which was held in 2019, were accepted and Hassal Mackison reported that the group’s finances were healthy.

Alan Thom then took over the chair and officiated in the process of elections to the committee.

Mr Brewer accepted the nomination for the post of chair and he was seconded and elected unopposed.

He is joined on the committee by Tracy Thom, Hassal Mackison, Carol McLean, Marie Bee, Anne Easson, Kathleen McGregor, Maggie Langelaan, and Fiona Findleton.

Mr Brewer, a member of Pride of Place for nine years, said: “Firstly I would like to thank the office-bearers, Tracy and Hassal, for continuing in their posts, and for supporting Anne through the last 18 months, a support that has enabled Anne to keep Pride of Place active and a force in our town.

“Anne has held the chair far longer than she expected and if her true hours of dedicated work on PoP’s behalf were listed, they would be hard to believe.

“The PoP committee and the members

of the work squads have played their part and a special mention should go to Marie, whose work in the charity shops has been invaluable.

“Thanks should also go to the MAD squad, which has helped PoP for many years and has already pledged ongoing support.

“We can also count on the support of Perth and Kinross Council and its greenspace team, whose help and support over the years has been much appreciated.

“There is a lot of good will in the town for Pride of Place and we will be trying to tap into this even more during the coming year.”

The next PoP charity shop will open on

Sunday, August 22.

Volunteers are welcome, with proceeds used to fund PoP projects for the benefit of the town.

Organisers have said that takeaway refreshments will be available and all seating will be outdoors.

KINCLAVEN CHURCH

Rev Peggy Ewart-Roberts led the service on the 11th Sunday after Trinity, assisted by Rev Bill Ewart.

Janet Coyle played the organ and hymns included ‘Be Still for the Presence of the Lord’ and ‘Be Thou My Vision’.

Scripture lessons, read by Norma Service, were from Psalm 111 and John ch 6, vv 51-58.

Jesus is metaphorically referred to as food – an image which conveys the essential necessity of his presence before people can enjoy a truly meaningful and satisfying life – the life He promises to all and the only way to verify the truth of that promise is by trusting and trying it.

Teas, coffees and chat were enjoyed afterwards in the Coach House.

Sunday’s service starts at the usual time of 9.45am and will be led by Rev Harry Mowbray.

On Sunday, August 29, a special Songs of Praise service will be held to mark the retirement of Ian Rae as session clerk.

All are welcome to attend.
