Defeat by league leaders was harsh lesson

- SPORTS REPORTER

Meigle travelled to Goldenacre in Edinburgh to take on league leaders Heriots on Sunday.

The visitors were asked to bat first and lost Tom Duff early on with only 15 on the board.

At the other end Majid Rasheed looked in superb form, taking on both the full and short ball well and had reached 30 from only 25 balls – including three fours and a six – before he fell in bizarre circumstances after run-out by the wicket keeper after failing to regain his ground following a missed drive.

That was about as good as it got for Meigle as no one else could get to grips with the pace and movement of Main and Ruthven, along with the turn and guile of Scotland spinner Mark Watt.

It was Watt’s quicker delivery that accounted for Neave and Drummond, for 18 and 17 respectively.

Saturday’s hero Zahid Rasheed could not repeat his heroics as he was calamitously run-out.

There were positives at the end of the innings as youngsters Barron and Christie acquitted themselves well.

Meigle were eventually bowled out for 97 in the 42nd over.

In reply Heriots cruised to victory in only 16 overs for the loss of three wickets.

The highlights for Meigle were an outstanding diving catch by Iain Christie to get rid of Shean, and the continued good form of Murray Scott – who added two more wickets to his brace on Saturday.

These included that of Watt after another catch at gully from the dependable Duff.

It was a harsh lesson for Meigle against a highquality side.
