Renewed appeal over Rattray safety issues
A Rattray resident has hit out at Perth and Kinross Council for failing to resolve longrunning safety issues.
Peter Ritchie was speaking at the latest meeting of Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council, held in the Adult Resource Centre on Jessie Street in Blairgowrie recently.
He said: “Every time I come here its about the same thing.
“I have been on about this for three or four years now and nothing has been done.
“We need lights on the Common in Rattray to improve safety for people walking at night or in the dark in the winter.
“Springfield Properties has been digging up the Common recently to sort out sewage drainage so it would be a good time to do it.”
Mr Ritchie also raised concerns about road safety on Glenalmond Road, particularly around speeding traffic and a road crossing between the new houses and the existing play park.
He said: “We have been going on about this for nearly 10 years, all we’re asking for is speed ramps or some sort of traffic calming measures.
“We got them at Hatton Road so why not Glenalmond Road? “We need help with this.
“Is it going to take a child dying before something is done about this?”
Blairgowrie and Glens ward councillor, Bob Brawn, was at the community council meeting.
The Conservative elected member said: “Both myself and Councillor Shiers have chased up the lights on the Common and we have been told that there is no budget for it.
“As for Glenalmond Road, we have a meeting with council officers on August 26 where we will raise this again.
“They are inundated with work at the moment, however.
“We accept it is dangerous and are hoping there will be some drawings done this financial year and that the work will be done the following financial year.
“While I think there is money for Glenalmond Road, there is still the problem of getting people to have the time to do it.
“Hopefully we will get something at the play park – such as temporary speed bumps, for example – organised at the meeting on August 26.”
