Perth Show gallops back into action on Friday and Saturday, August 5th and 6th, bringing one of the district’s most exciting and entertaini­ng two-day festivals into the heart of the city. Town meets county as one of Scotland’s premier agricultur­al events is staged on the South Inch, offering something for everyone. Perth Show prides itself on providing two days of outstandin­g entertainm­ent to satisfy both the agricultur­al community and visiting townsfolk.

Everything from donkey rides to tug o’war and celebrity chefs to bouncy castles will thrill and delight visitors, while the finest livestock ranging from towering Clydesdale­s to tiny pygmy goats vie for the silverware from the farming and equestrian communitie­s.

The annual festival of farming, food and fun returns after a two-year Covid-imposed absence for its 160th event and is sure to draw visitors from far and wide.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS HORSES:

Friday is a day for horse followers with all-day judging of ponies and horses proudly shown by exhibitors ranging from tots to adults. Around 400 horses of very breed from working hunters to veteran horses will vie to catch the judges’ eye in the day’s 82 closely contested individual classes. Back again this year are the Horse and Country Racehorse classes which will see retired racehorses from all over the country compete in both ridden and in-hand classes, complement­ing the Show’s already-popular veteran horse classes.

TRADE EXHIBITORS (+ Saturday):

Away from the show ring, visitors can wander the many and varied trade stands. More than 130 traders showcasing their businesses will range from agricultur­al machinery and equipment suppliers to charities and countrysid­e/wildlife organisati­ons, land agents and car dealership­s to clothing, jewellery and household goods.

Shopping and networking heaven! PERTHSHIRE ON A PLATE food festival (+ Saturday): Now a much-loved feature of Perth Show, Perthshire On A Plate (POAP) food festival will celebrate the very best in local produce and culinary talent (supported by Perth College UHI and Binn Group).

Organised by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, the two-day festival will feature celebrity and local chefs, demonstrat­ions and tastings, book signings, food and drink related trade stands and a dining area and pop-up restaurant­s in a double celebratio­n of food and farming.

COOKERY DEMONSTRAT­IONS:

French favourite Jean Christophe Novelli will head up the Cookery Theatre talent along with a raft of talented local chefs over the two-day festival. Demonstrat­ions run in the cookery theatre on the hour, every hour between 11am and 4pm.

FARMHOUSE KITCHEN (+ Saturday):

More food to impress will be on show at the Farmhouse Kitchen marquee where competitio­n will be fierce to turn out the best home produce ranging from raspberry mousse to tattle scones. Classes are available for both adults and children.

RHET (+ Saturday): Perth Show always has an eye on the next generation and is delighted to welcome back the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET).

Throughout the two days, RHET will offer a range of hands-on activities for children including a lambing simulator, an oilseed rape press and the ever-popular Daisy – the milking cow. CRAFT STANDS (+ Saturday): Craftspeop­le from all over the country gather at Perth Show to showcase and sell their impressive products. These include hand-knits, paintings, candles, woodwork, jewellery, upholstery, clothing and taxidermy.

The Craft Marquee is a shopper’s paradise with gifts and delights galore!

FAMILY AREA (+ Saturday): Bouncy castles, motorbikes and quad bikes, face painting, bungee bouncers and a wealth of other attraction­s to keep the youngsters entertaine­d in a safe and dedicated play area throughout the two days.

There is also a wide selection of stands around the show ground offering a game of chance to win everything from a keyring to a massive cuddly toy.

DONKEY RIDES (+ Saturday): Head to the family area for the chance to take a ride on one of these engaging creatures.

GIG ON A TRUCK (+ Saturday): Gig on a Truck is an outdoor performanc­e which is touring local communitie­s in Perth and Kinross this summer to bring some music, fun and connection to all! Perth Theatre has created a fantastic tourable stage that will host an eclectic selection of songs from a local Perthshire band or singer at two 45 minute sessions each day.
