Key route in village to close for resurfacing

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

A key route through a village in rural east Perthshire is to be closed for a significant period over a fortnight later this month to allow resurfacing work to take place.

Perth and Kinross Council has issued a letter to locals outlining its intention to undertake work on the U93 Village Road in Kirkmichael from its junction with the A924 to Balnald.

The project is due to start on Wednesday, August 17, and last for a total of two weeks subject to weather conditions.

It will see the main route through part of the village out of bounds to most vehicles between 9.15am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The times have been chosen to allow access to Kirkmichael Primary School to be maintained, with the opening day of the project scheduled for the first day of the autumn term.

The council’s letter, seen by the Blairie, states on-street parking and loading will also be suspended during the same time period.

The document explains: “The works are programmed to commence on August 17 and will take up to two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

“Due to the available road space and nature of the works, a road closure with suspension of on-street parking and loading is required.

“The road closure times will be restricted between the hours of 9.15am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, to maintain access at school times.

“Vehicular access to properties ... will be limited to when the works allow, and [when] it is safe to do so.

“This is due to the excavated road surface and the laying of hot road material by machinery.

“If access is required during these times, please expect some delays.

“If possible, we kindly ask that you park your vehicles outwith the site during working hours as we cannot guarantee immediate access/egress from properties.

“Pedestrian access will be retained throughout but there could be some delays due to the lack of footways.

“Emergency service vehicle access will always be maintained throughout the works.

“On waste collection days, please present your bins as usual.”

The letter concludes: “Regrettably, there will be some inconvenience and disruption whilst the works are taking place and we will endeavour to keep this to a minimum.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your co-operation.”

Locals have been advised to call 01738 476476 should they require any more information.
