Sensational play from Majid brings Meigle win

-

Meigle got the better of Stoneywood Dyce in the Breedon North East Championship on Saturday.

The Black and Golds’ 323 total was enough to secure victory by 136 runs.

Meigle batted first at Victory Park on a green-looking wicket following overnight rain.

It didn’t take long for things to heat up both on and off the park as Majid Rasheed began in destructive fashion.

He brought up his 50 off only 26 balls and had added 112 in partnership with young opener Fred Kelly before the latter was dismissed looking to hit his third boundary in succession.

Majid Rasheed carried on and reached his 100 soon after before finally falling after amassing 115 from only 66 deliveries.

There were useful contributions in the middle order from Raju Gayashan, Hayden Guest and Zahid Rasheed as Meigle posted yet another total in excess of 300 during what is proving to be a run-filled season.

After tea Majid Rasheed continued his amazing day by picking up the first three Dyce wickets.

Brother Zahid Rasheed took the next two before some middle order resistance from Coetzee and Louw made the Victory Park side work hard for their win in the ever-increasing afternoon heat.

The wickets were shared around thereafter with the pick of the rest of the performers being Kelly, who took two welldeserved wickets at the end.

It was a comfortable win in the end for Meigle, set up by Majid Rasheed’s fantastic knock.

The match ball sponsor was Zee’s Peri-Peri Takeaway.

Elsewhere, a defeat for Aberdeenshire at home to Huntly means that Meigle regain their position at the top of the table.

Sunday saw the club’s first XI play their 3 Counties Cup semi-final against Strathmore at Perth’s Doo’cot Park.

Raju Gayashan finished on 57 not-out as Meigle set a target of 131-4 R.

Strathmore could only muster 130-7, meaning Meigle progressed to the final.

However, there was to be disappointment later in the day as hosts Perth Doo’cot notched 132-8 and Meigle could only manage 125-8 in reply.

Meigle’s second XI played a 2 Counties Cup semi-final at the same venue on the same day.

They posted 94-8 in response to Freuchie’s opening 98-1.
