Last chance for book festival ticket savings

- CLARE DAMODARAN

There was a good turnout at the launch of ticket sales for the BOOKMARK festival in October.

The Blairgowrie, Rattray and the Glens book festival will take place in the town’s Community Campus on Saturday, October 8, and Sunday, October 9, this year.

Tickets for the popular event were released for sale at a ‘meet the author’ event with Chris Whitaker in the St Catharine’s Community Centre recently.

As well as getting a chance to secure ‘early bird’ discounted weekend passes for the autumn event, those gathered enjoyed an insight to Chris’s award-winning novel We Begin at the End.

Speaking to the Blairie after the event, chair of BOOKMARK Gail Wylie said: “All tickets for October’s festival are now on sale.

“We are very grateful to the exciting young crime writer Chris Whitaker for helping us launch the ticket sales and who gave us a fabulous hour of insight, humour and detail about his prize-winning novel We Begin at the End.

“This is a writer who is going to go far and we look forward to welcoming him back to BOOKMARK with his next novel.”

Gail went on: “We return to the Community Campus with an exciting programme of nine events covering everything from Scottish wildlife photography to a short play about the Black Watch soldiers on the fields of Flanders.

“Top crime novelists, historians, Scottish art and music experts - all chaired by equally talented interviewers – are all on the line-up.

“If you’re interested in listening to writers, artists, photographers who are passionate about their subjects then BOOKMARK has the event for you!

“And as a special extra event, there’s a song-writing workshop in Blairgowrie Library as well.

“Until August 13, we’re offering a Weekend Pass for all nine events at the special price of £45 – an unmissable saving of nearly 50 per cent.

“BOOKMARK thanks all our sponsors for making our festival so special - Hodge Solicitors LLP, A Proctor Group Ltd, the Finlay family, Lyon and Turnbull, Publishing Scotland and Castle Water.

“Thanks also go to Ivybank Lodge and Heathpark House for giving our writers such memorable places to stay.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to our wonderful festival in this, our tenth year!”
