Share views to shape homes of the future
Housing strategy update needs input
Perth and Kinross Council is asking people to share their views on what housing and local communities“should look and feel like” in the region over the next five years.
It comes as PKC is in the process of updating its Local Housing Strategy (LHS) for 2022-27.
The local authority hopes the new strategy will set out a vision for housing and housing-related services in the region.
Following an initial consultation last year, the council and its community partners have now developed a draft vision and priorities for action.
The council has said its priorities are providing a range of more affordable homes, homes for those with varying needs, and zero-emission accommodation that uses internetenabled household technology.
A final consultation has now been launched on the new strategy, which is seeking the views of local people, community organisations and housing partners on what their priorities are.
Blairgowrie and Glens SNP councillor Tom McEwan is the convener of PKC’s housing and social wellbeing convener.
He said: “The LHS is an ambitious plan, setting out what homes and communities should look and feel like in Perth and Kinross over the next five years.
“This vision includes delivering more homes, creating great places, providing better housing choices and delivering homes which are affordable, energy efficient and meet the individual needs of each household.
“Before the strategy for 2022-27 is finalised we want to make sure that local people, communities and stakeholders have their say on whether they think our priorities will make a positive difference to meeting housing need in Perth and Kinross.
“We will consult a wide range of stakeholders to get a variety of different views, and we would like as much input as possible from local people and interested parties.
“Everyone can take part in the process by completing the short consultation questionnaire, and I would encourage people to make their views known.
“All comments we receive will be considered, and will feed into the final version of the LHS which will cover the next five years.”
Following the consultation, which ends on September 9, the feedback will be used to finalise the Local Housing Strategy which will be submitted for formal approval by Perth and Kinross Council in November 2022.
