Welcome to news taff

The chair of the board of NHS Tayside has extended a warm welcome to over 400 new members of staff said to have taken up duties across the region in the last month.

Lorna Birse-Stewart said she was “delighted” to see so many new recruits choose to work in the region after completing their training.

She said the new arrivals in part reversed a trend seen by the board over the last five years where a significant number of newly qualified staff had opted to accept roles elsewhere.

Nursing and midwifery director Claire Pearce informed the board over 100 new doctors and more than 300 new nurses had started in roles across Tayside over the last four weeks.

She said she personally welcomed more than 200 former students to the workforce at an event held earlier this month.

“It was brilliant to see so many new nurses eager to start,” she said.

“It’s extremely uplifting to see so many nurses choose to stay in Tayside where they have done their training.

Ms Birse-Stewart said: “I would really like to extend a welcome on behalf of the board to everyone who has chosen Tayside as their place of work.

“I think that really reflects the training, the commitment [and] the support that students have had during their time here in Tayside and on the wards and out in the community.

“I’m really delighted to see that flow is coming into Tayside so strongly again.”
