Donations provide comfort to those fleeing war zone
Blankets and teddies
Members of the Blairgowrie Group of Perth and Kinross SWI handed over blankets and trauma teddies to the Scottish Refugee Council recently.
The items will be distributed by the Scottish Refugee Council among families settling in Perth and Kinross after fleeing Ukraine following its invasion by Russian forces in February this year.
A spokesperson for the Blairgowrie Group thanked staff at the Walled Garden in Perth, which works with members of the community on therapeutic activities that contribute to improving wellbeing, for facilitating the event.
And the spokesperson added: “We would like to thank all those ladies, members and non-members, who gave of their time to crochet or knit the squares for this initiative and to the members who spent many hours sewing them up into all sizes of blankets.
“The little children will just love the teddies.”
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine six months ago, Perth and Kinross has welcomed more than 300 displaced Ukrainians to the region as a whole – including many who now call eastern Perthshire home.
Meanwhile, Scottish Women’s
Institutes is Scotland’s leading memberbased organisation and welcomes every woman in Scotland to join.
The spokesperson continued: “Created over 100 years ago, the SWI now offers a unique and inclusive community, where women can have fun, form friendships,
campaign, learn and share skills, and socialise with other women.
“Members gain life skills, learn and develop arts and crafts techniques, and raise awareness of current affairs affecting women, and the SWI is proud of its heritage and future vision.
“Ladies of all ages are welcome to join us, we would love to have you along.”
