Narrow opening defeatfor BlairRFC

Blairgowri­e RFC were on the end of a narrow 31-28 defeat away at Kinross in their opening match of the season on Saturday.

The hard-fought cup contest was sitting at 14-14 after the initial 80 minutes as the equally-matched teams could not be separated.

But Kinross forged ahead in extra time, scoring a further two tries and a penalty to seal the win.

Blairgowri­e are away at Aberdeen Wanderers on Saturday this week in a 3pm kick-off.

Off the pitch, the club is hosting a ‘Freshers’ evening’ and barbecue on Friday, September 9, from 7pm.

The club’s first home match of the new league campaign is against Ellon on Saturday, September 10.

A barbecue is to take place before the match from 12.30pm, to which any of the club’s former players have been invited as part of ‘Legends Day’.

The game kicks off at 3pm and entertainm­ent will be provided by rock covers band Slider in the evening.

Training takes place from 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the JJ Coupar Recreation Ground.
