COUPAR ANGUS ABBEY CHURCH
Sunday’s service was conducted by Rev Dr Hugh Ormiston, the interim moderator.
Mr Ormiston opened his service with the question: “How can I ever thank the Lord?”
He went on to say: “Whoever believes will not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Readings were by Joan Jones from Psalms 114, Romans ch 8, vv 12 to 17 and Luke ch 18, vv 9-17.
Prayers of thanksgiving and intercession included praise to God for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and for King Charles III, as well as others in the community.
Mr Ormiston based his message on verse 17 from Luke ch 18.
He reminded the congregation of how things seemed much more simple and innocent to people when they were children.
He said: “We were all free, we belonged to the Church. We were part of the fellowship of ‘Faith’, and that’s what matters.
“The Spirit is working amongst us, the kingdom of God is within us.
“Despite the catalogue of ills that have befallen us latterly, Jesus Christ is the history – the last man.
“Faith is living in the future, grasp it with hope, faith, and love for your neighbour.
“The present is but fleeting, we live in the ever-coming future, in hope and in faith.”
Music by Alison Malcolm included ‘The Trumpet Tune’, an organ solo by the Barocco sempre giovane orchestra.
The Abbey Church will be setting up a lunch club in October.
Anyone interested in helping to set it up is asked to contact Ellen McGibbon.
