Honour for piper Murray
The outgoing piping convener at Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games, Murray Henderson, was presented with a quaich in recognition of his efforts on behalf of the Games.
Murray was also invited to play the pipes at the lowering of the flags ceremony to mark the closing of the 2022 Games, which he described as a honour.
Thanking Murray for his time on the committee, chair of Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games Association, Pete Richardson, said: “Murray has been an invaluable part of the Highland Games committee for the past decade and we are very grateful for everything he has done to support the Games in that time.
“Blairgowrie is one of the most popular Games on the piping circuit and that is due in no small part to Murray.”
Murray is succeeded in the
role by Stuart Samson MBE, who recently moved to Blairgowrie.
There was a strong international feel to the piping this year with 45 entrants in the senior competitions and eight in the junior, the second highest turnout on the Highland Games circuit this year and the highest in a number of years at Blairgowrie and Rattray
Highland Games.
Among the winners of the day was Ben Duncan, who won the Open Piobaireachd Challenge Quaich and the Angus Hotel Challenge Shield for the most points in the Open Senior event.
Bobby Allen won the Jimmie McGregor Memorial Quaich for the C Grade Aggregate competition while the overall winner of the Open Junior piping competition was Arran Green.
Judges at the Games this year were Jimmy Banks, Ian Duncan,
Derek Fraser, Peter Hunt, Colin MacLellan, Anne Spalding, Iain Speirs and John Wilson.
This year’s stewards were
Stuart Samson, Murray Henderson, Patricia Henderson, Ally Meek and Wanda Samson.
