NHS Tayside’s vaccination teams have delivered one million jags since the Covid vaccination programme started in December 2020.

The region’s health board has said that this equates to 10,989 vaccinations being delivered every week for the past 91 weeks – with 35,000 jags being delivered every week at the programme’s peak.

The 1,000,000 total includes first, second, third and booster doses, as well as the first batch of winter 2022 Covid vaccinations.

Dr Emma Fletcher, NHS Tayside’s director of public health, said: “Staff from across NHS Tayside, the health and social care partnerships and GP practices, as well as colleagues in local councils, voluntary organisations and the armed

forces, came together to deliver the biggest vaccination programme in history.

“A huge thank you to every single person who has helped us reach one million vaccinations.

“We are also very grateful to the people of Tayside who have answered the call to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated.

“You are all continuing to play your part in helping us do everything we can to continue to manage Covid.”

The winter Covid and flu vaccination programme began this week, with health and social care workers, care home residents and staff, and those who are housebound the first to be offered their

injections.

Appointments for the general public, starting with those over the age of 80 years, are due to begin on Tuesday this week.

NHS Tayside’s central vaccination centre in Perth has been relocated to the former Lakeland store on St John Street.

The new venue, currently the subject of a planning proposal to potentially transform it into a restaurant and flats, replaces the previous site in the city’s St John’s Shopping Centre.

Karen Gunn, a senior nurse with the vaccination service in Perth and Kinross,

said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped set up and run the current centre as well as everyone who came in to see us for their vaccinations over the past eight months.

“We look forward to welcoming our patients to our new Perth Central clinic for their winter vaccines.”

Anyone attending the new Perth Central vaccination centre by car can use any of the nearby car parks in the city centre.

Blue Badge parking is available on South Street and there is drop-off access from King Edward Street, with Shop Mobility located nearby at Canal Street.
