Commemorations as region pays respects
East Perthshire residents will be among the millions paying their respects to The Fallen at poignant events held over Remembrance weekend.
There will be no parade on Friday, November 11, but there will be a short Service of Commemoration at the War Memorial in Blairgowrie’s Wellmeadow from 11am, during which one Legion wreath will be laid.
On Sunday, November 13, the traditional parade featuring members of Blairgowrie, Rattray and District Pipe Band, as well as representatives of other local groups, will march down from Brown Street to the Wellmeadow.
The Remembrance Sunday service and laying of wreaths starts at 12.30pm.
Thereafter the parade will form once again and march back from the Wellmeadow to the Royal British Legion
Scotland clubrooms in George Street via Leslie Street, Reform Street and the High Street.
Local Legion branch chair Torquil MacLeod said:“Our very fine War Memorial in the Wellmeadow, first dedicated on June 21, 1921, reminds us of the huge sacrifices made by the men and women of the parishes of Blairgowrie and Rattray in the service of their country.
“There are 248 names on the memorial, 175 from the First World War, 71 from the Second World War and two from the KoreanWar.”
Meanwhile, branch members have been reminded that £20 annual subscriptions are now due.
Mr MacLeod, a retired Major, added: “New members aged 18 and over are most welcome, and there is no need to have previous service in the military.”
