Cricket fitness is a hit with ladies

‘Do your best’sessions back on again in Meigle hall

- SPORTS REPORTER

A fitness session with a difference is set to swing back into action in east Perthshire later this week.

CricHiiT evenings for girls and women start once again from 7.30pm on Wednesday, November 23, at Meigle’s Kinloch Hall on Dundee Road.

No knowledge of cricket is required, but some skills are thrown in as part of a general circuit fitness class to add variety.

CricHiiT started locally in the spring and sessions were held weekly at Victory Park until the middle of the summer.

Lucy Scarlett, who has led most of the sessions, said: “It has proven to be really fun and engaging for the women involved.

“The nature of the circuit is you give your best and highest intensity, so you are not having to do a set number in a set time.

“You simply give your best and, the following week, try to add more to your tally.”

The programme has been supported by funding from Live Active Leisure, and is also supported by Meigle Cricket Club.

Lucy continued: “The funding has acted as a catalyst

to establish a sustainable women’s outlet for the healthy number of girls playing in the Meigle CC youth section.

“Participants can stay ‘CricHiiTers’ but can progress to playing softball cricket games against other local teams and, for those who really catch the cricket ‘bug’, they can move on to play hardball cricket.”

The session on Wednesday this week is free of charge.

Anyone who has attended previously is encouraged to bring a friend with them.
