Paralympia­n Lesley inspires women and girls at sports day

Blairgowri­e Paralympia­n Lesley Stewart was among those who spoke at a recent women and girls’come and try sports event.

Hosted by Perth and Kinross Disability Sport earlier this month, Lesley, who competes in target shooting, explained how she got involved with the sport and her experience at the Games in Tokyo last year.

The event at North Inch Community Campus in Perth also saw participan­ts try out a range of activities.

Walking football was delivered by the team at Jeanfield Swifts Community Football Club and Perth Ladies United.

Helping at the badminton station were Glenearn Badminton Club and Badminton Scotland Disability.

Wheelchair basketball proved popular with basketball­scotland, Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club and Perth Eagles Wheelchair Sports Club all helping out.

There was yoga and fitness on offer from Vitalityme while, at the athletics station, Perth Strathtay Harriers was in attendance.

And Perth Eagles Boccia Club ensured plenty of people got the chance to try boccia.

Graeme Doig, branch co-ordinator for Perth and Kinross Disability Sport, said: “It was brilliant seeing everyone giving everything a go and having fun.”
