Joining together to bring Chistmas cheer

Residents asked to support efforts and help brighten festive season

Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust (BRDT) and Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council (BRCC) have joined forces once again to help bring some Christmas cheer to children and families in the town.

And local residents are being urged to support efforts to brighten the festive season for youngsters and support families in the local community this Christmas.

Children have been invited to write to Santa with their Christmas wishes and post their letters to him at the Christmas lights switch-on in the town and the BaRI Store.

The wishes have been written on to festive tags and hung on a special Blairgowrie and Rattray Christmas Wish Tree in the Welton Road Tesco.

The children’s wishes are in three price bands – up to £10, up to £20 and up to £30 – to suit

all budgets.

The idea is that members of the community help children’s wishes come true by taking a tag from the tree, purchasing the gift listed on it and returning it,

wrapped and with the original tag, to Tesco’s Customer Service desk by Monday, December 19, for Santa to then collect and deliver to the youngsters on Christmas Eve.

Last year, more than 60 children were delighted to receive gifts from Santa with many of them very excited to catch a glimpse of the man himself.

Sam Stewart, community engagement co-ordinator at BRDT, said: “This was something we first organised last year and it was a huge success with 61 children and young people receiving gifts.

“People were so kind and generous and it was really heartwarming to see our town working together for the benefit of the wider community, especially our youngsters, at what can be a very difficult time of year for many.

“This year, with the cost of living crisis affecting families everywhere, times are even tougher and we appreciate that money is tight for everyone.

“However, if you would like to put a smile on a young person’s face this Christmas, and are able to help out families who may be struggling financially more than usual, then please head down to Tesco and pick a gift tag and help brighten someone else’s Christmas Day.”
