GALA Fairydean Rovers shipped seven goals in a game for the second time this year as their Lowland League struggles continued on Saturday.

The Borderers – who are third from bottom in the division – kicked off 2024 with a 7-0 hiding away at Civil Service Strollers.

Goals from Sam Nicolson and Che Reilly on Saturday did little to soften the blow for the fans at Netherdale, who have watched their side concede 12 goals in two home games after last week’s 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Bo’ness United.

The visitors took the lead shortly before the 20-minute mark when Josh Jack got on the end of a dangerous Paul Kennedy delivery along the six-yard box to mark his debut in style.

Jack then turned provider as Corey O’Donnell doubled Broomhill’s lead after 33 minutes.

The debutant grabbed his second of the day, capitalising on a spilled ball from the keeper after O’Donnell had shot from outside the box.

There was time for a fourth before half time, Scott Roberts getting in on the act with a cool finish.

Broomhill did not take their foot off the gas in the second half, with O’Donnell grabbing

his brace on the 49th minute.

Gala were soon six behind when Ross Smith headed home from a Darren Miller corner.

Nicolson pulled one back for the hosts after an hour and Reilly made it two with around 15 minutes to play.

But Broomhill put the final nail in the coffin on a bleak day for the Borderers when Max Wright got on the scoresheet.

It was a dominant display from the visitors, who sit fifth from bottom in the Lowland League.

Gala’s Ciaran Greene suffered a fracture to his left ankle early on in the game and will be sidelined while he recovers.

The Netherdale side now face three away games on the spin as they look to end the season on a brighter note.
