Cross country
THERE was absolutely brilliant and determined running by all our SHS runners at the Border Schools Cross Country Championships at Netherdale recently.
The school is very proud of all pupils for their efforts.
Special mention to Annabelle (3rd), Gregor (2nd) and Jessica (3rd) for their medal winning runs.
Thank you to the event organisers.
Fishing
SOME of our S2 pupils started a short course run by the Tweedstart initiative this week.
The course aims to teach pupils about fly fishing, fly life cycles, fly tying and responsible fly fishing.
We are thrilled to strike up this relationship with the Tweed Foundation and hope to offer the experience to more pupils in the near future.
Pupils started the session looking through river samples to learn about invertebrate life in local rivers.
The day ended with a chance to learn casting a fly rod.
Europe
RECENTLY, the Higher Modern Studies class were visited (all the way from London) by Asher Jacobsberg from Europe House and Jane Halstead, the director of the Scottish European Educational Trust.
They ran a very interactive session highlighting how the European Parliament worked and gave an insight into how things have changed (as well as stayed the same) since Brexit.
This helped students to gain a valuable insight into the importance of international relations and understanding the practical implications of Britain’s exit from the European Union.

Humanities
HUMANITIES Club have had an exciting and varied term.
We have enjoyed regular GeoGuessr tournaments and Blooket quizzes, testing our knowledge of flags, WWII and LGBTQ rights, among other topics.
In February we discussed the significant election results around the world, including less welldocumented countries like El Salvador and Pakistan.
A highlight of March was reenacting the assassination of Julius Caesar to mark the 2068th anniversary of his death.
