Harriers are back in action

GALA Harriers were in action across the UK on Sunday.

At the London Marathon, more than 50,000 runners were expected on the start line. There was an amazing result from Darrell Hastie which saw him come in 51st overall, sixth in his age category, and fifth out of the Scots. He averaged a fiveminute-and-29-second mile.

Next across the line for the club was Chris Currie in 2:40:21. Gary Trewartha completed in 2:49:12 while Neil Purves finished in a time of 2:52:27.

For the ladies,Katie Rourke did the club and her junior developmen­t squad proud, finishing a stunning 298th female in 3:02:30.

All the hard work also paid off for Jog Scotland leader Elodie Petit who won the club place and broke the five-hour mark finishing in 4:58:29.

Kieran Fulton (pictured), of Moorfoot Runners, was representi­ng Scotland at the Mini London Marathon where he was fifth.

Down in Keswick, Harriers’ Isla Paterson was third in the junior trials for the European off-road Mountain Running Championsh­ips.

Irvine Welsh was also flying the flag for the club racing the best in the UK – he was an excellent 14th male.

The first of the junior hill running league races took place at Dumyat Stirring on Sunday.

Seb Darlow, Charlie Dalgliesh, Bryn Mcree and Kacie Brown took part at U15 level. Darlow came in second.

Ava Richardson, Poppy Lunn and Sam Robertson were in action for the U17s.
