Anniversary visit

THIS week we have welcomed 14 pupils and two staff from the Conrad-Graf-Preysing Realschule in Plattling, Selkirk’s twin town.

During the two-day visit, pupils from both schools mixed and got along well and helped each other to communicate and understand what was happening.

On the first day, as well as joining their Scottish partners in class to experience moving from classroom to classroom, and different styles of teaching, the students joined together to participate in assembly, PE and social dancing where the Platting students were introduced to the Dashing White Sargent, Strip the Willow and the Virginia Reel.

They danced well and picked up the tricky steps easily.

The students must have enjoyed their first day, as they were keen to come back for a second.

In fact, some of the German students said they preferred

the Scottish teachers to their own.

Again, partners met up, greeting each other enthusiastically, this time for more lessons and also to bake shortbread.

The rest of the week will be spent in exploring more of the Borders and Edinburgh, before returning at the weekend to Bavaria.

Thank you to all staff and students who helped to welcome our visitors so warmly and to make the visit so successful.

It has been a pleasure to see how well everyone has got along.

Easter concert

WE recently held our Easter concert, ‘Tartan Tunes’, which celebrated all things Scottish, and what a fantastic celebration it was.

The concert hall was filled with the lively sounds of traditional music, creating a truly special atmosphere.

Our pupils took us on a musical journey through

Scotland’s rich heritage.

From the hauntingly beautiful melodies of the fiddle to the rousing energy of the bagpipes.

The concert was a great success, and we’d like to thank everyone who participated and helped make it such a special event.

Leavers

ONE of Selkirk High School’s loveliest traditions is the piping of our school leavers through the school building, through a whole school guard of honour and out of the gates on their final timetabled day of school.

There was much applause and cheering for this special group… and quite a few tears.

We wish all our leavers the very best and thank them for their gigantic contribution and wonderful, inspiring company over the years.

Particular thanks to Jamie Tuckwood, S4, our piper, for leading this moving moment with such talent and dignity yet again!
