Wunderkind Kaufhold wins in Luxembourg

-

The fourteen-year-old Casey Kaufhold converted a cadet world record and a top qualifying seeding into the recurve women’s individual title at the GT Open in Luxembourg, the first stage of the 2019 Indoor Archery World Series.

Kaufhold levelled her final with second seed Gabriela Bayardo in the fifth set, before shooting a ten in the tiebreaker to her opponent's nine.

“Coming into the competition, I knew that I had the skill to come here and do well. I just applied everything that I knew form-wise and mental-wise to the competition and it ended up with a good outcome,” said Casey.

Kaufhold broke the record with 589 out of a possible 600 points during the first qualification session at the GT Open, a single point more than the record set by Italy’s Tatiana Andreoli in 2016.

The young archer is the scion of a wellknown archery dynasty; her family owns Lancaster Archery, one of the best known target archery retailers in the USA.
