GBR recurves had a triumphant meet, becoming the only non-asian team behind the dominating trio of Korea, China and Chinese Taipei to qualify six full spots for the Tokyo Olympics. The women's team then ran their luck and skill all the way to the bronze medal match, where they upset a ragged China to edge out a win. It was a fairytale run for Richard Priestman's teams, who had worked extremely hard to get to this point – but so had a lot of other squads on the packed field at the Dukes.

A crucial factor was the high qualification for both teams, which allowed them to escape a dangerous extra match on the Tuesday. This enabled everyone to go in fresh against teams in lesser form, and likely made the difference between winning and losing the spots.

Jon Nott's young compound team couldn't quite repeat the excellent form they showed in Antalya to make a serious run at things, and the men's compound team didn't make much of a showing. But collectively, GBR have hit a high point on the world stage that has not been seen for many years. There's a small matter of money, too – the full qualification for Tokyo and the placing at the worlds is likely to have a serious impact on funding for the national governing body over this and the next Olympic cycle.
