INDOOR WORLD SERIES TAKES PLACE IN NIMES, VEGAS POSTPONED
The Sud de France Nimes tournament took place in the usual slot in January, but this year with just a small coterie of professional archers participating.
Due to current French laws preventing larger gatherings, and in contrast to the usual 1000+ archers attending, a few dozen pros duked out the compound and recurve finals at the Parc des Expositions Nimes. Spectators were banned this year, again due to the ongoing pandemic.
There were no youth or senior categories, but among the reduced number were plenty of archers with extensive international experience, including Olympic silver medallists Lisa Unruh and Jean Charles Valladont, against a number of French and other continental European opposition.
Estonian compound archer Lisell Jäätma cruised to a three-point win, 147-144, in a final against teammate Meeri-marita Paas [pictured above]. Her brother Robin Jäätma took bronze in the compound competition.
Jean Philippe Boulch took the men's compound title, while Lisa Unruh and Steve
Wijler also took individual titles in the recurve competition.
In other indoor news, The Vegas Shoot, normally held on the second weekend in February has been cancelled as previously held. A virtual event, plus a live, televised championship event will now be held on April 14-17 this year.
Attention now turns to the beleaguered archery calendar and the upcoming World Cup and Olympic qualification events due to start in April 2021, in Guatemala City. At the time of Bow going to press, all events are still scheduled.
