VAZQUEZ REPLACES AN SAN AT UPCOMING WORLD FINALS

-

An San, the reigning Olympic champion, has decided to skip the World Cup Final, due to be held in Yankton, South Dakota, after the conclusion of the World Archery Championships.

An won the place awarded automatically to Olympic champions. Though she will compete at the championships in the same venue one week prior, An has opted to leave after that tournament along with the rest of the Korean delegation.

“I appreciate very much the invitation, and I am so proud to be Olympic champion. However, I didn’t shoot any stages of the World Cup, and I would like to give this spot to someone who did,” An said. “After a very intense season, I’m excited to give my all at the world championships and then take a rest.”

Ana Vazquez, the 20-year-old Mexican archer who finished in the top 10 at all three World Cup stages this year, has been given the place as the next highest-ranked archer in the World Cup rankings. Currently ranked 18th in the world, Vazquez took bronze at the Pan American Championships earlier this year.

Other competitors at the World Cup Final this year include Atanu Das, Deepika Kumari, Braden Gellenthien, Mike Schloesser, Mete Gazoz, Jack Williams, Casey Kaufhold, Brady Ellison, Elena Osipova and Mauro Nespoli.
