MARKETING THE EVENT: IZZY CARPENTER

Bow spoke to AGB'S Izzy Carpenter, the reigning European compound champion, and in charge of marketing for the European Grand Prix.

This is a fairly new job for me; I've only been in it for three in a bit months now, which is soon to be dealing with a big tournament like this. I feel quite comfortabl­e on a shooting field anyway, so I suppose that element is eliminated. My job is about liaising with World Archery to get what it needs in order to market and promote the event, as well as getting everything we need for Archery GB to make sure that we have all of our athletes covered. That's covering all the successes and making sure we're getting content that can be used during and post-event as well, to try to utilise having all these people in the spaces that we can. So it's video, interview, social media and all that lovely stuff.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING DOING A WEB STREAM AND A LIVE TV PRODUCTION?

Size for a start! We have at least three times the number of cameras we usually do, and the camera team. World Archery brought a load of its team as well as our own. It means we have a lot more bodies on the ground, a lot more archers, and live interviews too. It also means that, instead of just having off-camera interviews, where we can retake it if we need to, we have to make sure we're on it and getting everything that we need in one take.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH FINALS DAY?

I'll be honest, I was a little bit nervous just, you know, unfamiliar­ity with this role within this of environmen­t. Usually, I'm on the other side of the camera shooting, so this is a little bit different for me, but I feel like I've got into the swing of things quite quickly. And that's what you've got to be – quick, on your feet and adapting as fast as you can, and I feel like I've done that OK.

We're getting some good reception from the public, which is our main interest along with driving membership and participat­ion and getting those numbers up. So I feel like this event is doing that, we've got loads more followers, who are engaging with content, which is exactly what we want. And we've got of loads viewers at home, too. It's really good.
