CHARLIE “WAGGY” JEFFRIES, R.I.P LONDON EBA (LEBA) member Charlie “Waggy” Jeffries, a Normandy veteran, passed away aged 94 on January 16. LEBA President Stephen Powell reflects: “One of the best nights out Waggy and I shared was when Wag was my guest at the 2009 BBBOFC Awards Dinner in Hammersmit­h. Good old Wag made my night by just being so happy to be there.”

CHARLIE PAGE, R.I.P ANOTHER LEBA member, Stepney ex-pro and respected trainer Charlie Page, died on January 18. In 1948, Charlie was Class A featherwei­ght ABA Youth champion, and as a pro welter in the ’50s he fought the likes of Albert Carroll, Tony Mancini, Johnny Mann, Ron Richardson and Teddy Best. “As a trainer/cornerman with Dennie Mancini he was the tops,” writes Stephen Powell. “At the [Thomas a’] Becket gym he was revered, and he trained some of the best fighters of the day, including British bantamweig­ht champion Johnny Clark.”
