CHAR­LIE “WAGGY” JEF­FRIES, R.I.P LON­DON EBA (LEBA) mem­ber Char­lie “Waggy” Jef­fries, a Nor­mandy vet­eran, passed away aged 94 on Jan­uary 16. LEBA Pres­i­dent Stephen Pow­ell re­flects: “One of the best nights out Waggy and I shared was when Wag was my guest at the 2009 BBBOFC Awards Din­ner in Ham­mer­smith. Good old Wag made my night by just be­ing so happy to be there.”

CHAR­LIE PAGE, R.I.P AN­OTHER LEBA mem­ber, Step­ney ex-pro and re­spected trainer Char­lie Page, died on Jan­uary 18. In 1948, Char­lie was Class A feath­er­weight ABA Youth cham­pion, and as a pro wel­ter in the ’50s he fought the likes of Al­bert Car­roll, Tony Mancini, Johnny Mann, Ron Richard­son and Teddy Best. “As a trainer/cor­ner­man with Den­nie Mancini he was the tops,” writes Stephen Pow­ell. “At the [Thomas a’] Becket gym he was revered, and he trained some of the best fight­ers of the day, in­clud­ing Bri­tish ban­tamweight cham­pion Johnny Clark.”
