Somerset and Bristol versus Cornwall and Dorset creates a county level match for young boxers looking to step up to the next level

-

SOMERSET & Bristol met Cornwall & Dorset in a team match, supported by the Western Counties schools championships on April 29. The match was hosted by Downend Boxing Club, Bristol and featured a selection of talented young boxers under the direction of Bristol/ Somerset Lead Coach Craig Turner.

Craig said, “This was the first team match between our two teams

and we are very much encouraged by the quality of the young boxers willing to step up to the next level of county representation outside of their club environment. We look forward to next season when we can return the fixture in Cornwall.”

Ian J. Tennant, the Cornwall coach, commented, “Boxing in Cornwall is now more popular than ever with some real potential from within the county.

“We now have a great team of volunteers to back up all of our boxers. This includes the introduction of a criteria and selection process for the county team, based on the same process as regional and national squads. This ensures that we consistently have the option to select the most dedicated boxers willing to support the county, at our disposal for the Cornwall Squad.”
