Distance victories are the order of the day, as Schofield and Bulger win
ON a night when precious little went the way of the visitors, and all nine contests on the card at Oldham Leisure Centre went the distance, the two eight-round bill-toppers saw Manchester’s tall
Charlie Schofield and Failsworth’s well-supported Jake Bulger have their arms raised at the conclusion of their respective bouts.
Unbeaten light-heavy Schofield bossed proceedings for the vast majority of his tussle with Stoke’s
Chris Nixon – a fact emphasised by the 80-74 score handed down in his favour by third man Darren Sarginson. Bulger, meanwhile, down at super-feather, had an altogether tougher night against Stockport’s game Jamie Quinn,
before ultimately getting the nod 78-75 from referee John Latham.
A feisty six between flame-haired Ancoats man Dale Coyne and Middleton’s Darryl Sharp went the way of the former, with referee Sarginson seeing him a 60-53 winner. The same official scored promising Gorton operator Ely Murphy a shutout four-round victor over Brierley Hill’s MJ Hall.
Nuneaton’s Kristian Laight was bested by Beswick novice Kane Gardner. Kristian was dropped late in the third and came under heavy fire in the last. Mr Sarginson scored 40-35.
Local Mohammed Rashad,
born in Afghanistan, claimed a debut 40-37 win over Melksham’s Liam Richards in the evening’s curtain-raiser, which was handled by Mr Sarginson. Meanwhile, there were a trio of shutout four-round victories for Oldham’s Joe Eko and a pair of debutants in the shape of Droylsden’s Kieran Jones and Moston’s Dylan Evans. Mr Latham was the man in charge for all three contests.
In only his second outing, Eko proved too busy for Dewsbury’s late sub Youssef Al Hamidi, while Jones and Evans triumphed against comparative veterans in the shape of Hull’s Luke Fash and Swindon’s Joe Beeden.
THE VERDICT Barely a round dropped as every single home boxer remains unbeaten.
