DUBOIS’ HALF-DOZEN

Daniel expected to starch Darch and cruise to 6-0

-

EXCITING Greenwich heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois continues his fistic education when he tackles experienced Welsh battler Dorian Darch over 10 rounds.

Dubois [inset], who turned 20 only in September, has won all five pro fights inside the distance, impressing observeres with three in the opening session and two in the second.

In his last two outings he has walloped Mexico’s Mauricio Barragan (ko 2) for the vacant WBC Youth title and AJ Carter (rsf 1) for the vacant Southern Area crown.

The aim for 2018 is the English, then British, titles but first the 6ft 5ins, 17st Dubois needs an opponent who can give him some rounds.

Darch, a 33-year-old from Aberdare, would appear to fit the bill: he has accumulated good experience in his 12-5-1 (1) record with bouts against Anthony Joshua, Eddie Chambers and Hughie Fury.

He went the six-round distance with recent world title challenger Fury, but was stopped in two by Joshua (now world champion, of course) and in three by Chambers (then still a fringe contender).

Dubois may need longer than Joshua to dispatch Darch, but not much longer expect his heavy hitting with either hand to secure victory by about round three.

Brentwood middleweight Joe Mullender, 10-2 (4) and Peckham welter Johnny Garton, 20-1-1 (7), are in 12-round action for vacant IBF East/west Europe titles.

Former top amateur Harvey Horn, a 22-year-old southpaw from Chigwell, turns pro in a flyweight four-rounder. Horn won silver at the 2015 European Championships and also boxed for the British Lionhearts in the pro-style World Series of Boxing.
