TYRONE MCCULLAGH is hunting for title shots after taking Tom Tran’s unbeaten record by virtue of a fifth-round knockout. Headlining Mark Ginley’s ‘Danger at the Devenish’ show, Derry’s self-styled “White Chocolate” dropped sprightly German Tran at the end of the fourth and was applying pressure in the fifth when referee Hugh Russell Jnr intervened at 0-35 to terminate the scheduled eight-rounder.
In the fight of the night, Dublin’s
Phil Sutcliffe Jnr stopped Germanbased Kazakh Andreas Maier in the third round of a six. Maier was dropped in the first and John Lowey waved it off at 2-55 after Maier had been dropped twice in round three.
Anto Upton was supposed to box Miguel Aguilar but the Spanishbased Nicaraguan came in heavy and Upton opted not to box. Aguilar stepped in against Belfast’s Paddy Gallagher after Paddy’s Georgian opponent failed a medical on the night. Gallagher won 60-54 victory on Hugh Russell Jnr’s scorecard.
Coalisland’s Conrad Cummings returned after his split from Cyclone Promotions to outpoint Hungarian Norbert Szekeres 60-54 on Mr Russell Jnr’s card.
Belfast’s Padraig Mccrory had too much firepower for Spanishbased Nicaraguan Michael Mora.
Mora was shaky after a knockdown and John Lowey halted the four-rounder at 2-18 of the second.
Belfast’s Alfredo Meli defeated Cork-based South African Jade Karam 60-54 on Mr Russell Jnr’s scorecard.
Coalisland debutant Taylor Mcgoldrick opened his account with a 39-37 victory over Poland’s Michal Ciach. Eamonn Magill refereed.
