Boyer beats Acker on Golden Gloves show, writes Tommy Dix

LIVERPOOL’S Golden Gloves an open show at the Fusion nightclub in November.

In a bout of attrition and clever boxing Venture ABC’S Ray Boyer gained the verdict over Golden Gloves’ Gavin Acker. Acker was fast out of the traps and worked off his jab with intent. The pace of the bout was hectic and Ray started to make a real impression with his counter-punching to head and body, giving Acker a standing count in the second round.

Boyer matched him as every inch of canvas was contested. At the end of the bout a sustained ovation was awarded to both.

Golden Gloves’ Hussam Salem defeated Phoenix Fire ABC’S Nyle Gallagher. Salem, a good mover, threw combinatio­ns but Nyle made his mark on the contest and forced Salem to fight for his victory.

Gabriel Mchugh, North Mersey ABC, defeated Golden Gloves’ Kirk Smith, picking up a tight verdict in a cracking contest.

Warrior Breed’s ABC’S Asim Nazam outpointd Louis Stevenson, Astley ABC. Liam Tough, Anfield ABC, took the verdict over Golden Gloves’ Dawit Ybrah in a fine contest. Sadiq Makki, Golden Gloves ABC, beat Sahil Kabeer, Warrior Breed ABC, in a barnstorme­r. Makki’s variety of punches was amazing for his age.

Ryan Smallwood, Anfield ABC, made it two out of two for the club as he outscored Golden Gloves’ Faris Elsoriemy.
