GB YOUTH CHAMPIONS

The Youth and Junior Three Nations conclude in Motherwell

-

THE finals of the Youth and Junior GB Three Nations championships were held in Motherwell, Scotland on May 20. Youth light-welterweight Hassan Azim performed well to beat Wales’

Jamie Janes. He boxed with style, counterpunching as his Welsh opponent pressed forward. Azim maintained his tactics, pulling away over the second and third rounds to win a unanimous decision. “This was a very confident and stylish display,” said team manager Cliff Perkins. The 28 strong England team came away with 18 gold medals and four silver. Maisey-rose Courtney, at Youth 54kgs, was another confident performer for England. She switched stances and kept her hands low to invite Scotland’s Hayley Grover in where she could pick out openings to take a unanimous win.

In an all-action lightweight clash Welsh Youth Rhys Edwards went to war with England’s Jimmy Sains in a fast and furious encounter. Momentum swung from one to the other but Edwards made sure of a split decision win.

Scotland have a Youth superheavyweight champion as James Russell unanimously outpointed

countryman James Hutchinson. RESULTS
