BERCHELT BOMBS BARROS
POWER-PUNCHING 26-year-old WBC super-featherweight king Miguel Berchelt [inset], 34-1 (30), thrilled his home fans at the Polyforum Zam Ná (Promociones Zanfer/max Boxing) by retaining his title with a third-round stoppage of Argentina’s former WBA featherweight titlist Jonathan Barros, 41-6-1 (22). The veteran Ciudad Mendoza challenger, 34, was decked in the second (once) and third (twice), before the fight was called off at 1-53. Both fighters weighed 130lbs. Michael Griffin refereed. Berchelt’s next defence is likely to be against fellow all-action Mexican Miguel Roman, who boasts a 60-12 (47) record and has twice challenged for world honours in the past.
