SCOTT IS TOPS
Allan beats Rae for Celtic belt, writes Jon Bruce
SAM KYNOCH’S promotion at the Lagoon Leisure Centre saw the better movement and power of Scott Allan (Shotts) prevail over Barrhead’s Gary Rae for the vacant Celtic bantamweight title.
After 10 absorbing rounds referee John Latham held aloft the hand of Allen, who won unanimously for judges Vic Loughlin at 97-94, Mark Lyson 98-93 and Kenny Pringle 98-92.
Allan slipped inside Rae’s jab and used his power shots with ease. He wobbled Rae in round two, when Gary did well to stay on his feet. Rae was buzzed again in the third but weathered the storm to come back into the fight.
The Celtic lightweight title was scheduled between Ryan Collins from Irvine and Glasgow’s Ahmed Ibrahim, but with Ibrahim failing to make weight (by 4lbs) only Collins could become champ. It was not to be, as referee Lyson called a halt at the start of round five with Collins’ left eye badly swollen shut.
Kelty featherweight Craig Morgan comfortably won his debut, 40-35 for referee Kevin Mcintyre against Darlington’s Adam Hutchinson over four rounds. Dumbarton welterweight Martin
Harkin had a six-rounder against Bolton’s Chris Jenkinson, who did not come out for the start of the third, explaining to referee Kevin Mcintyre he could not continue due to an earlier low blow.
Renfrew welter Callen Mcauley seemed out of sorts but still won his first six-rounder, outpointing Bulgaria’s Angel Emilov 59-56 for referee Kenny Pringle.
Hamilton lightweight Nathaniel
Collins made a winning start to the pro ranks with four-round points win over Killamarsh’s Lee Connelly. Referee Paul O’connor scored 40-36.
Aberdeen’s Kristen Fraser enjoyed a comfortable victory over Bulgarian
Rozmari Silyanova at super-bantam, referee Kevin Mcintyre stopping the eight-twos at 1-53 of round seven.
Cambuslang’s Jordan Mccorry outclassed Reynaldo Mora from Barcelona until referee Paul O’connor had seen enough by 1-52 of round two in this super-lightweight six.
THE VERDICT Classy Allan gets back to winning ways.
