MAKING HIS MARK
CROWDS at the North Notts Arena have seemingly increased with every passing show, and there was a sizeable turnout once more for this Joe Elfidh/scott Calow co-promotion comprising half-adozen four-rounders, all of which were overseen by referee Kevin Parker.
The heavyweight bout between
Mark Bennett of Edlington and Barnstaple-based Pole Kamil
Sokolowski proved a close-fought, highly watchable match, with the two heavily tattooed battlers trading clubbing blows right to the finish. Bennett just edged it 39-38.
In only his second outing, wellsupported Worksop man Dylan
Clegg handed awkward Southwarkbased Italian Victor Edagha something of a lesson en route to a 40-35 victory. The highlight of Clegg’s performance was when he sent the under-fire visitor out between the ropes and onto a ringside table midway through the third. Luke Middleton, from nearby Langold, floored Nottingham’s
Carwyn Herbert with the very last punch of the opening session – a right hook upstairs. Although he never managed to repeat the trick, he duly picked up his second paid victory, despite Herbert turning in a better second-half showing. It finished 39-37.
Dinnington’s Darren Snow was forced to settle for a share of the spoils, with his bout against Hungarian Istvan Orsos finishing 38-38. On another day, experienced southpaw Orsos might just have nicked it, courtesy of several weighty lefts. He was warned for use of the shoulder on a few occasions, though.
The remaining two fights – Maidstone’s Lenny Fuller against Eastbourne’s Scott Hillman, and Sheffield’s Sonny Price versus Blackburn’s Naheem Chaudhry – finished 40-36 to Fuller and Price.
Fuller dominated against Hillman who, though still searching for his maiden victory, always boxes with a smile on his face. Price, meanwhile, cheered on by a sizeable bunch, opened with a pair of rights to the body and never looked back.
THE VERDICT Exciting local novice Clegg looks like he has potential aplenty.
