FORGET ME NOT
Dalakian is the unsung member of a decorated Ukrainian foursome
FOUR Ukrainians currently reign as world champions – Vasyl Lomachenko, Oleksandr Usyk, Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Artem
Dalakian [above], 17-0 (12). The latter is undoubtedly the least known of the quartet, but that’s mainly due to the unglamorous weight division he operates at (flyweight), rather than anything else. The man from Dnipropetrovsk has proved himself as a force to be reckoned with at 112lbs by conquering respected rivals in Brian Viloria (ud 12 – February) and Yodmongkol CP Freshmart (rsf 8 – June) already this year. This Saturday (December 15), he aims to maintain this impressive form when he puts his WBA title on the line against the Dominican Republic’s
Gregorio Lebron, 21-4 (16). The Parkovy Convention Centre in Kiev, Ukraine is the venue for this Union Boxing promotion. In his two most high-profile bouts, Lebron twice lost out to then-unbeaten Stamp Kiatniwat on foreign soil in Thailand – both times via majority decision ( July 2015 and February 2016). The Santo Domingo native has won all eight since, but an inside-the-distance defeat likely awaits him against Dalakian.
