Harwich Youth Gordon impresses on home show

-

HARWICH BOXING CLUB hosted their annual winter show at the Towns Park Pavilion, providing 13 contests overall, with the host club winning five from six.

In a widely anticipated Youth clash, this year’s Haringey Box Cup gold medallist 18-year-old Rio Gordon faced the challenge of England representative Tyler Rivers from Earl Shilton ABC. Rio set off at a blistering pace, stinging his far more experienced opponent with accurate shots in the first three-minute round. Rio edged the next two rounds, with accurate shots the order of the day. However Rivers also had his moments as he applied pressure in the closing stages of the bout in a great contest worthy of the admission fee alone. The unanimous points decision went the way of the welterweight from Harwich who also scooped the Best Home boxer trophy for his endeavours.

A family double was secured when fellow welterweight and brother Paul Gordon used his long leavers and higher work rate to unanimously outpoint the heavypunching Josue lufuluabo from Double Jab ABC.
