CHRISTMAS CRACKER

West Kingsdown hold their sixth show in 14 months

-

WEST KINGSDOWN staged their second show of the season, a dinner show “Christmas Cracker 2” at the Brands Hatch Mercure Hotel. After a string of late pull outs they managed to put together nine bouts.

Sid Claudel had a hard introduction to boxing with a unanimous points win over Poseidon’s Fatjon Daku. It was boxer versus puncher for three hard rounds with the immensely strong Daku pressing and Sid boxing well on the move. A great last round sealed the win for Claudel and best boxer of the night award.

George Welsh having his first bout since the Schoolboy finals was involved in another thrilling contest, this time against Charlie Martin of Team Wiseman. Giving away age and experience George took the fight to Martin from the first bell. However Martin, no mean performer himself, was equal to this

with his sharp shooting counters. Martin got home on a narrow split decision and the contest was voted best bout of the night.

Best technical bout of the evening was between the host’s Harvey Martin and Poseidon’s Kieron Ray. Ray won on another split decision. Martin’s cornerman thought a first round knockdown, ruled as a slip, should have counted.

Louis Wilson and Tommy Robinson (Swale Gloves) delivered a close contest. Again, a split decision, this time going to the aggressor Wilson.

The show closer for this sold out event saw Simon Briggs step up in class against All Star’s Ahmed Popoola. This light-heavyweight bout ebbed and flowed for three rounds with Popoola enjoying a good second round which ultimately decided the contest unanimously in his favour.

This December 6 event was West Kingsdown’s sixth show in 14 months and the club is looking forward to their next show on February 16.
