Results from the dual match in Bristol

AN England team met Ireland in a dual match on Saturday ( January 26) at City Hall in Bristol. Ireland were victorious as a team, winning of the 16 contests. Their coach Joe Lavelle was delighted with the result, saying, “It really was a fantastic show and set up. Everyone boxed very well and it really is encouragin­g to see the talent coming through.”

The majority of bouts were at Schools and Junior level. England’s

only Elite boxer Subhaan Ahmed was victorious, edging out Ireland’s

Sean Purcell on a split decision. “It’s been a valuable experience for a lot of these young England boxer who have started the year off with very competitiv­e internatio­nal bouts,” said Amanda Coulson, England Boxing’s Talent Developmen­t coach. “They all showed the profession­alism required to compete internatio­nally and I’m sure they will learn and grow from this experience.”

Downend Boxing Club helped facilitate setting up this dual event, along with Western Counties, Bristol Council, the City’s mayor and Broadplain Boxing Club.
