CHRIS EUBANK SNR admits he is “baffled” by his son’s decision to hire new trainer Nate Vasquez and further sideline Ronnie Davies.

Eubank Jnr has been working with Vasquez since the summer, when the pair met at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas.

They have been living together in Eubank Jnr’s Brighton home for the past few months and hope the fruits of their new relationship will be victory over James Degale at the O2 Arena on Saturday.

However, Eubank’s famous father has now admitted that he has reservations regarding Junior’s new training set-up and the role Davies will now play.

It was Davies who trained Eubank Snr throughout his glittering 52-fight career, which yielded world titles at middleweight at super-middleweight.

When asked if he was comfortable with Junior’s new training situation, Senior said: “How can I do this while sounding self-effacing? Anyone you bring in, do you think they’re showing me something I don’t know? No. Junior is happy with the new trainer. Me? I’m baffled.

“Nobody can bring something to me that I don’t already know, not in boxing. That’s where I’ve mastered my trade, I can’t talk in other fields.”

On Davies, Eubank Snr added: “With respect, you can’t compare this young man [Vasquez] to Ronnie. One of the reasons why Mayweather is so prolific is because he’s got something like 200 years of experience in his camp – and they’re his family. Where he has been clever is that he listened to his family.

“When you’ve got Ronnie... look at me. I had one guy next to me throughout my entire career. You think this is a joke going through these important contests and winning them? You have to show up. If you don’t produce the goods, you’re very quickly forgotten.”
