Gary Shaw witnesses a clean sweep for the home boxers on Merseyside

-

FORMBY’S Alex Dickinson claimed a straightforward 40-36 victory over Bristol’s Phil

Williams at the Greenbank Sports Academy (Black Flash Promotions). Dickinson’s work rate won him the fight, but his 6ft 2in frame could be better suited to cruiserweight, rather than heavyweight. Lee Every refereed.

Kirkby’s Connor Butler

dominated Hungary’s Norbert Dodo. A hurtful combination just 47 seconds into the second round (set for four) saw referee Lee Cook intervene to save the visitor from further punishment. Likewise, popular local Jonathan Walsh – lean and fit in his first pro outing – was far too good for Blackwood’s Paul Ducie. Despite giving away a lot of weight, Walsh dropped the winless Welshman in the third. Mr Every scored it 40-35.

Liverpool’s Meshech Speare

floored the outgunned and outweighed Nabil Ahmed late in the first, courtesy of a left hook to the body. The Keighley debutant was forced to take three further counts in the second, before Mr Every waved it off at 2-23. Former successful amateur Bradley Strand also scored an early win in a scheduled four-rounder. Strand boxed well from the start against fellow first-timer Lee Stevens (Newton Aycliffe). The Liverpudlian threw clever combos in an attempt to bypass Stevens’ high guard, which he did in round two when landing several power punches to the head. With his left eye completely closed as he walked back to his corner at the end of the second, Stevens’ team informed Mr Cook that he couldn’t continue.

In a slated six, well-supported local Nick Ball impressively triumphed against Barcelonabased Nicaraguan Reynaldo Cajina. Bamboozling his much taller opponent with feints, Ball unleashed firm flurries throughout, finally catching Cajina with a burst in the second. The usually durable Cajina stayed on the canvas for the full 10-count from Mr Cook at 1-37.

THE VERDICT A good night for the locals.
